Jake Sanders is a guitarist, bandleader and arranger whose musical career began in New York City and has since brought him around the world. After years as a street performer playing jazz and American traditional music, Sanders formed the popular roots band, The Cangelosi Cards. The group performed nightly in the back rooms and bars of the East Village but soon traveled well beyond Manhattan, playing shows from Shanghai to Stockholm. In 2010 Jake joined The Fat Babies, an acclaimed hot jazz band which continues a Tuesday night residency at Chicago’s world-famous Green Mill Cocktail Lounge. His last album with the group, Solid Gassuh (Delmark Records), made DownBeat Magazine’s "Best of 2017” list – a rare feat for a traditional jazz band in modern times. A longtime collaborator with vocalist and world-renowned Lindy hop champion, Naomi Uyama, Jake plays guitar and arranges for her swing outfit, Naomi & Her Handsome Devils. Sanders has recorded with the great stride piano player Paul Asaro and has been featured on record and stage with the Jonathon Doyle Swingtet. Adept at many string instruments, Jake Sanders can be heard playing banjo and mandolin on Pokey Lafarge’s Something in the Water (Rounder 2015). Jake Sanders became a Jalopy Records recording artist in 2018 with his first solo release entitled Estrellas de Radio. Sanders has performed at The Chicago Jazz Festival, The Detroit Jazz Festival, The Brooklyn Folk Festival and at Lincoln Center’s Midsummer Night Swing. He has been an artist-in-residence at the Shanghai House of Blues and Jazz in China and is a regular teacher and performer at Cracovia 32, home to the emerging swing scene in Mexico City. Jake has performed on countless stages throughout Europe, Asia and North America. As a solo performer, with Naomi & Her Handsome Devils, leading his own swing ensembles or playing with The Lovestruck Balladeers, Jake Sanders is a consummate traveling musician who can be heard far and wide.
